On the 13th March 1941 Hawker Hurricane No V7726 of No 9 group communications flight made a forced landing at Wrea Green near Weeton after suffering a engine failure to pick up on the approach to Squires Gate. The aircraft was being flown by a Squadron Leader Denys Gillam.
